Overview

Boys & Girls Haven is seeking Direct Care Professionals to work directly with at-risk youth in the Pre-IL programs.

Boys & Girls Haven is a private non-profit agency, nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) and dedicated to serving victims of abuse, abandonment, and/or neglect. We serve clients from across Kentucky through the main campus in the Louisville metropolitan area and several satellite offices around the state. While our services have expanded over the years, the goal since our beginning has been to provide every child we serve with a home, a family, a community and a future. Since 1950, Boys & Girls Haven has touched the lives of more than 5,000 vulnerable and forgotten children.

Shift Available:     1st & 2nd

  Essential Functions:
A. Safe Crisis Management
B. Operation of Agency Vehicles
C. Physical Demands - Regularly required to sit, use hands to manually manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands & arms, talk & hear. The employee is required to walk or stand. Must frequently lift &/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities: close, distance & peripheral vision, depth perception, & the ability to adjust focus. Ability to read, write & converse in English. Ability to respond to telephone & other auditory stimulation.
D. Treatment - 1)Actively assist youth to reach his/her goals by listening, teaching & counseling. 2)Provide youth clear expectations & directions. 3)Problem-solve in a calm, patient & understanding manner. 4)Ensure youth are made aware of BGH's rules & consequences for infractions. 5)Use specific constructive feedback to youth regarding their behavior & progress. 6)Participate in weekly team meetings 7)Conduct or participate in group & individual meetings with youth. 8)Ensure client/family information is kept confidential. 9)Familiar with contents of daily log & schedule & supervise youth accordingly. 10)Record significant events, behaviors, activities & youths movement in/out of cottage. 11)File incident reports, notifying appropriate parties as necessary. 12)Ensure that all forms are used per policy, reminding youth when needed.
E. House, Food and Safety - 1)Conduct monthly & report any problems for immediate attention/repair. 2)Explain to youth all emergency procedures & ensure procedures are followed. 3)Ensure cottage is clean, neat & in good repair. 4)As assigned, conduct room inspections. 5)Exercise proper care of equipment. 6)Transport youth in agency vehicles, 7)Ensure that cottage is secured upon leaving cottage vacant. 8)Serve on various committees as representatives of youth & staff.
F. Medical - 1)Ensure through teaching, monitoring & modeling appropriate hygiene. 2)Ensure medical, dental & mental health appointments are made & kept. 3)Follow medical instructions &/or prescriptions & record. 4)Ensure medications are ordered in a timely manner . Follow emergency & routine medical procedures & ensure youth are provided with medical care & prescribed medication. 6)Ensure contents of medical supplies are complete per procedure. 7)Dispense medications as directed on the Medication Administration Record.
G. Documentation - 1)Daily document (via client information management database) resident progress, issues & any incidents. 2)Daily document cleanliness &/or cottage maintenance issues. 3)Daily document complete time sheets. 4)Daily document group participation, cottage issues, incident reports, medication & staff-to-staff communication.
Qualifications:
1) Educational BS/BA in Human Services field preferred. High school diploma/GED required. 2) Relevant Experience/Credentials At least six months work experience with at-risk adolescents in a residential treatment program or similar program. 3)Other - Capability to work in a team model, including the flexibility & willingness to fill in for other team members when needed. Strong work ethic; work as a result-oriented, independent contributor. Experience working in Microsoft Office & be able to effectively utilize agency computer system(s). Must be at least 21 years of age & legally able to work in U.S. Valid drivers license & insurability by BGHs insurance carrier required. Successful completion of background screening & pre-employment drug screen. Successful negative, post-contingent offer & annual TB screening. BGH is a Drug-Free Workplace and will conduct drug testing pre-employment, for cause/suspicion, and randomly.
Training is a mixture of classroom and on-the-job training, Monday - Friday for about three weeks. Class room training is from 9 AM - 5 PM; OJT training shifts vary.
